This Thursday, July 20th at 8 pm on the amphitheater stage a little bit of Argentina is coming to Saratoga Performing Arts Center and you won’t want to miss it! The all male Argentinian dance company called Che Malambo will be performing a traditional South American dance called Malambo, which is a dynamic blend of footwork, rhythmic stomping, drumming and song that began in the gaucho heritage in the 17th century. What started as competitive duels to test agility, strength, and dexterity of the gaucho over time became a form of dance in South America. The hallmark style is zapeteo, it highlights the fast paced footwork inspired by galloping horses and will also feature the traditional Argentine drum called bombo and traditional boleadoras. Che Malambo was founded by Gilles Brinas a former French ballet virtuoso who now lives in Argentina and was inspired to pay homage to Argentinian tradition while adapting it for a modern, international audience. Saratoga is one of the two American venues that Che Malambo will perform at. Make sure you get your tickets to this one of a kind show before they sell out!
