The champion filly Songbird was retired Thursday, Aug 31, due to an injury.
Songbird was a two-time Eclipse Award recipient as Champion 2-Year-old Filly and 3-Year-old Filly last year. She won 13 races out of 15 with career earnings of $4.692 million. Her two losses came with Beholder beating her by a nose in the Breeders Cup Distaff last year, and her last race with Forever Unbridled winning the Personal Ensign six days ago at Saratoga Race Course.
Owner Rick Porter was quoted saying: “There is an ancient proverb that says all good things must come to an end. Today, Fox Hill Farm announces that something that was very good for us, and very good for racing, has come to an end — the racing career of Songbird.
Happy retirement Songbird; may you soar with joy into your next chapter of life.
