Empire Media Network is the parent company of two of New York State’s most beloved regional magazines, Saratoga Living and Capital Region Living. Our magazines share both an online presence and physical binding—once you’re done reading Saratoga Living, flip the issue over to read Capital Region Living—but each have developed an identity unique to the regions they represent.
At Saratoga Living, we believe every hour is happy hour, and that there’s no such thing as being overdressed. We measure distance in furlongs and always root for the dark horse. We make way for ducklings and know that water tastes best straight from the ground. Since 1998, Saratoga Living has been the best friend you always wanted—the one who has the inside scoop on what’s going on in town, whether it’s what Marylou Whitney wore to her annual ball or the tea on the new wine bar opening on Phila Street.
Founded in 2003, Capital Region Living is the heart of the Empire State. Spanning from the rolling hills of Columbia County in the south to the shimmering shores of Lake George in the north, this region has it all—cities teeming with life, suburbs straight out of a 1960s TV show, mountains, valleys, wetlands, woodlands, gas stations that sell ice cream, and, naturally, the world’s first egg-shaped performing arts center. Capital Region Living—home of the Besties, the 518’s longest-running people’s choice awards—aims to highlight the people and places that make this little slice of the world great.
Saratoga Living and Capital Region Living developed separately and came together under the Empire Media Network name in 2020. Since then, EMN’s bimonthly magazines have been a beacon of light in the era of “if it bleeds, it leads,” and during a time when the presence of independent, ethical, and integrity-driven local journalism isn’t a given.

But while EMN has wholeheartedly embraced the digital revolution, we’ve made a deliberate effort to push back against the ways the internet, AI, the algorithm—whatever you want to call it—has isolated us. We host regular in-person events (from our beloved annual parties like BestieFest and Capital Region Gives Back to speed-dating events designed to get singles meeting up face to face), and have even launched the Saratoga Living Insiders Club, a fast-growing social group that connects locals who want to get more involved with their community.
