saratoga living is the premier lifestyle media company in Saratoga Springs and New York’s Capital Region. Although features are typically assigned to an existing group of talented writers, we’re always accepting editorial queries from other writers who feel they have a unique voice to bring to the publication. In particular, we look for stories with a clear Saratoga/Capital Region connection, or stories that, if not directly related to Saratoga, would be of clear interest to our readers.
What sets saratoga living apart from other publications is the role its writers play in the telling of a story—the magazine is written in first-person. The experience of the writer should be just as important as the subject of the article, so that when readers pick up the magazine, they feel as if their best friend is telling them a story. To get a sense of this style, open any recent issue of saratoga living to a feature story and give it a read.
This year—2019—we’ll be publishing six issues, and many stories in each issue will fall into each category. The themes are as follows:
- The “I Do!” Issue (submissions due November 15)
- The Design Issue (submissions due January 15)
- Saratoga Summer (submissions due March 15)
- “The Races!” Issue (submissions due May 15)
- “The Best Of” Issue (submissions due July 15)
- The Holiday Issue (submissions due September 15)
Of course, not every story fits into one of these categories, and we welcome pitches on other topics including celebrities (with Saratoga ties), travel, design, literature, people, horse racing, tech, arts, cars, food and drink.
As for your pitch: Pitch us a story, not a topic. And pitch us yourself. Why are you the best person to write this piece? Send all queries to firstname.lastname@example.org and include a writing sample or link to a portfolio. If we’re interested, we’ll respond to your email within two weeks. Thank you and good luck.
