Commercial real estate moves quickly in the Spa City. Case in point: Two days after Wheatfields Restaurant & Bar closed the doors of its Saratoga location after 38 years in business, a new tenant for the 440 Broadway space has been announced.
The new business that’s moving in is The Scene Coffee & Cocktails, a coffee, brunch, and cocktail joint that opened its first location on Western Avenue in Albany in 2023. Now, owners Mariana and Nick Forbes are expanding to a second spot in the heart of the Spa City.
“We’d like to thank Wheatfields owners Tim and Colleen Holmes for the opportunity they’ve given us,” Mariana said in a statement released on Monday. “The Capital Region is built on strong family businesses, and it means the world to us to carry on that tradition in such an iconic space. So many Saratogians have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and everyday moments in that space, and we don’t take that lightly. We are honored to carry that spirit of gathering forward. Being on Broadway in Saratoga Springs is a dream for us, and we can’t wait to become a part of the neighborhood.”
While an opening date for the new business hasn’t yet been announced, plans for the space are already underway. The 5,000-square-foot space will feature both a bar and dedicated coffee bar, allowing the business to transition seamlessly from coffee and brunch service into an evening cocktail lounge. On the menu will be fan favorites from Albany, including the cinnamon French toast latte, chicken pesto panini, and tiramisu martini, plus shareable plates like a burrata flatbread and a beef slider trio. The owners also have plans to host DJs on select nights.
“What excites us most about Saratoga is the opportunity to build our second location with everything we’ve learned from our first,” the couple wrote in the press statement. “We’ve had three years to learn what works, what we can do better, and how we can create a stronger experience for both our guests and our team. We’re taking those lessons into every decision we make in Saratoga.”
